yikes! the new property manager for the real estate agent is a conscientious young man who just did an inspection of this beautiful but fragile old house. He is worried that it’s unsafe for me to be here & is going to send a builder and structural engineer over to make an assessment…
Aaaaarrrrkkkk! Roderick xmas 2013
PS have been looking for a cottage to rent in the Blue Mountains since late February, have formally applied for four light, dry places with good heating & wild gardens but have been pipped at the post every time… competition is fierce, the good ones get snapped up in 2 days.
X fingers the next one will be mine!

It’s Spring!

It’s Spring here in Sydney to celebrate we went for a walk to Sydney Park wetlands and the native Clematis aristata was in full flight! The house is totally clean and cleared to celebrate the change of season, just repairing a couple of old patchwork cushions a neighbour tossed out 15 years ago that needed mending back then.

Stitching with a big needle and thick thread is fun & so quick!

feeling so much lighter!

We have lived here in our old lady of a house for nearly 13 years. A lot of stuff has gathered in that time as well as dust so I am busily cleaning and clearing everything down to the smallest scrap of cloth, sorting the buttons & beads, feathers & sticks, stones & bones, books & journals, old sketches and drawings, artworks and tools etc etc and feeling so much lighter!

will get started on the dining room next as I have to wait til the sun comes up to vacuum this corner where I type on the computer and keep the business records, it’s already sorted as our two 11 year old printers died when I was preparing the tax earlier this month.

We are still in lockdown here in Sydney but allowed to go for walks within 5 kilometres of home, Sydney Park wetlands is keeping us almost sane

and garden maintenance is deemed an essential service

we miss seeing our friends and Rod is looking forward to going for a beer at the local pub, the Covid variant D restrictions will start being lifted when 70-80% of the population are vaccinated but we have a long way to go!

yesterday we had our first house inspection with the new real estate agent with only 24 hours notice, always have to worry a bit about what on earth they will think of us and this wild old lady of a house!?
the lounge room full of plants and art
looking into the studio
the office
dining room
industrial storage shelves
the milk crate wardrobe
the view from the bedroom window is nearly private, we will celebrate ten years here on December 1st
Old Man Crow in his music room
upstairs verandah
Ariel P Cat 1999-2017
so the house feels clean, the inspection went well & looks like we will be here for a good while yet!

wallpreparationSoon my bench will be able to move back to it’s spot under the window! Thanks to the wonderful handyman and his offsider on Halloween the problem is solved, we had a lot of rain last week and the walls are drier than they have ever been in the 6 years we have lived here, doing the happy dance we may well be here for a good while yet!
Yesterday arvo I propped up the ceiling with a piece of bamboo cut to fit in behind the curtain rail and prepared the walls and the hole in the ceiling by scraping back all the loose plaster & rotted paint, sealed it all with watered down Bondcrete (PVA), will let it set for a few days then give it another coat and think about how to make some spider web lace with string to strengthen the edges….
xmas 14the xmas decorations are up and presents are waiting to be opened, I love the Silly Season!
