gift giving in the Age of Coronavirus

Posted: March 26, 2020 by Mo Crow in friends, It's Crow Time

wondering what to give a very good friend for his birthday today
thought about a box of fancy handmade chocolates from the local chocolaterie
or perhaps a yummy Italian cake from the patisserie down the road
but then the light bulb came on
what’s the rarest thing to find in these strange days?
he was on a conference call working from home so I had to leave it on the doorstep with a text message
he just rang back to thank us for the generous gift & that he would think about us every time he uses it
I said that really wasn’t necessary…

  1. Barry says:

MC – a treasure and a smile in one gift. Stay well. B

  2. shiborigirl says:

so practical! and humor is always a gift.

    • Mo Crow says:

(((Glennis))) still grinning, reminds me of the time I gave Old Man Crow a toilet seat for his birthday when we first started living together, the quizzical look on his face was priceless but it’s been an excellent thing that has moved with us to four houses since, it will last a lifetime hehe!

  3. dinahmow says:

    hahaa well played,Mo

    • Mo Crow says:

(((Di))) gotta find the laughs, had an unsettling experience in Burwood this morning, all the crows and bin chickens were just strolling around in the streets like they owned the place…

  4. Nancy says:

Haha I once gave my dearest friend a whole 24 pack as a house warming gift, because they always ran out! Lol

  5. Eliene St. Romain says:

Never known you for toilet humour my friend…..but this time Love and Laughter…..the most necessary thing that is required at this time. What are ‘bin chickens…is that another term for crows?

  6. fiona says:

Love it Mo! The currency of our times…

  7. Saskia van Herwaarden says:

    a treasure;-)

  8. deemallon says:

Hilarious! Really good one. The image of the crows and bin chickens is a little upsetting. What were they doing?

    • Mo Crow says:

(((Dee))) the crows were strutting around on the sidewalks and streets just taking their time looking very glossy and sleek as if to say you’re doomed, it’s our time now. The bin chickens were enjoying getting in on the act.

    • Mo Crow says:

(((Tina))) laughter and just remembering to breathe deeply from the diaphragm, shoulders back to open the heart chakra helps a lot in these strange days!

  9. Liz A says:

a clink of my morning coffee cup on the screen in thanks for the laugh … I love that a local restaurant that is still open for take-out is sending a roll of tp with their orders for as long as their supply lasts

    • Mo Crow says:

(((Liz))) am enjoying all the small kindnesses and smiles of encouragement in our neighbourhood, the air is so much cleaner here with less traffic on the roads, hoping these strange days will give our planet a chance to breathe & give us all time to recalibrate our priorities.

  10. Marti says:

Well you gotta “roll” with the times and this gift was two”fold”, humorous and practical and these days, if you can find bits of humor, they will get you through your days.

On our street, Rich and I appear to be the oldest so neighbors on both sides have been checking in, wanting to do whatever is needed, Heather called yesterday, was on her way to the grocery and wanted to know if we need anything. Said to call her or her husband Danny day or night. Kindness just wraps around us. Rich and I are pretty self sufficient but the caring from our neighbors touches us deeply.

  11. Carol says:

((((Mo & Rod)))) Fabulous present, sharing and caring – as you always do. Stay safe and well, both of you. We’ll get through this. (I’m home schooling 3 young people and loving it!)

    • Mo Crow says:

(((Carol))) hehe! a bit of silliness helps in these strange times, x fingers our gardening business will continue to be deemed an essential service as we have lost half our indoor plant hire jobs this week, yikes!

  12. Acey says:

kinda love the really showy gift box the best. It’s a great backdrop for the big reveal.

    • Mo Crow says:

(((Acey))) so funny, what goes around comes around, just popped into the local supermarket and they had some toilet rolls available for the first time in weeks so we scored one to replace the one we gave away!

  13. Hazel says:

    I laughed out loud!

    • Mo Crow says:

(((Hazel))) we were given another three rolls of toilet paper by one of our customers yesterday & today the owner of our biggest garden offered us more work as often as we need it in these uncertain times, it’s a rambling wild double block on the waterfront that has turned into a jungle in these last few months of good rain !

  14. arlee says:

Inspired 🙂 Aren’t we blessed to have friends with a good sense of humour during these times?

    • Mo Crow says:

(((Arlee))) that roll of toilet paper we found at the local supermarket is made by Who Gives a Crap, a very cool company that uses 100% recyclable materials and donate 50% of their profits to help build toilets and improve sanitation in the developing world.
