Braille for the Soul – Love is the Answer
My talisman comes with a sense of Optimism & Hope.
It contains feathers from a pair of Tawny Frogmouths roosting in our garden, words of prayer & inspiration and symbols that resonate with energy & healing stitched onto sheer organza.
They are wrapped in a small piece of nuno felt I made, using very fine merino, silk & alpaca, sprinkled with gold & copper leaf & trapped under a layer of Uzbekistan silk I pintucked with lines to represent the paths we take…
getting to know Liz Ackert’s mended shell, a piece of Christina Cairns wedding dress and Els Snieder’s leaf brooch

her purple pod was the inspiration for Braille for the Soul!

Upon first looking at Lizette’s special talisman, I thought of the unknown wonder of a cave that lets in light from maybe a crack in the cave wall or perhaps an opening at the top…Her bundled talisman wraps all of us in hope, understanding and love; wraps us in a “skin” of pathways and light- the golden threads, lighting the way, speak so clearly to me of beloved Leonard Cohen’s Anthem and the line, “there is a crack in everything, that is how the light gets in”. We all need to find that crack, that light. Lizette’s pathways, ground us, her feather lifts our eyes to the sky, the tactile sense of the felted wool, embraces us. It takes looking in all of the directions to find connections between ourselves and our world and when we do, we turn dreams into reality., this talisman holds a depth of beauty and understanding that is an amazing gift for the Gathering and for all of us.

Lisette’s talisman reminds me so strongly of a chrysalis, a place where transformation happens. It is hopeful, as prospective birth can be…beautiful for what it is and beautiful for what we hope it will become. The talismans from Liz, Christina and Els combine so easily with it. Each of them is so different, yet so complementary. It must be like Christmas every day, as these treasures come into your hands.
