yesterday we had our first house inspection with the new real estate agent with only 24 hours notice, always have to worry a bit about what on earth they will think of us and this wild old lady of a house!?
the lounge room full of plants and art
looking into the studio
the office
dining room
industrial storage shelves
the milk crate wardrobe
the view from the bedroom window is nearly private, we will celebrate ten years here on December 1st
Old Man Crow in his music room
upstairs verandah

so the house feels clean, the inspection went well & looks like we will be here for a good while yet!

Your house is so unusual…the wrought iron balcony reminds me of New Orleans. I’m glad things went well with the inspection.

    • Mo Crow says:

(((Dana))) we love our old lady of a house, she was built in the 1880’s but the last time she was renovated would have been sometime in the mid 70’s when DIY archways, stucco & bare brick were the fashion, almost bought a red check tablecloth & a bottle of Mateus Rose so I could drip candle wax down it for the dining room but we are so retro we didn’t need to, Old Man Crow has a ‘Best Before 1970’ badge that he wears with style !

  2. dinahmow says:

So happy for you, Mo! I know not everyone sees places as we do…
    Hugs!

    • Mo Crow says:

(((Di))) back in the 70’s who would have thought Newtown, Darlinghurst, Surry Hills & Redfern would become desirable areas! Ours is one of the last unrenovated places in the street so our days are numbered, x fingers we will get to stay here til I am eligible for the Age Pension in March 2021 when we will move to the Blue Mountains and become Blackheathens!

  3. Nanette says:

I love your house Mo, it and it’s occupants are beautifully eclectic. I’m glad you get to stay a while longer, at least until Blackheath is ready for you.

  4. Hooray! Well done – ‘keep on keeping on’…

    • Mo Crow says:

(((Susi))) these biannual house inspections are invasive but do help keep us almost civilized, the windows are sparkling & the dust bunnies have been banished for another 6 months!

  5. jude says:

    i enjoyed this visit!

  6. Els says:

Thanks for the grand tour !
    (hope all went right !)

    • Mo Crow says:

(((Els))) this is the 4th change of real estate agent we have had in 10 years, the nice young men who make the inspections are always respectful and amazed at the wobbly condition of our house!

  7. Martine says:

Hopefully that lovely old lady will protect you for the years to come…………….

  8. Eliene says:

Wonderful news guys. I know how you love your home….and it shows thru with feeling.

  9. Tina says:

Loved the tour of your beautiful amazing home. A place for everything and everything in its place. I’m not sure I understand who or why it gets inspected .. do you own or rent and how old is this this old lady with such character and personality. 😍

    • Mo Crow says:

(((Tina))) we rent this old house which was built in the 1880’s, the last time it was renovated would have been about 40 years ago. We have a decent landlady who has kept the rent affordable over the 10 years we have lived here but we have spent literally thousands keeping the walls standing & the roof intact over that time, she doesn’t pay for any repairs!

  10. Barry says:

Hi MC – must be a bit hard to think of leaving after 10 years. I hope the selling goes well as does your next part of the adventure. Go well. B

    • Mo Crow says:

(((Barry))) x fingers the landlady won’t want to sell our beautiful old house until 2021 when I’ll be old enough to get the Age Pension then we can move to the Blue Mountains and become Blackheathens!

  11. Margaret Johnson says:

ahhh, the memories….Mateus rose and red and white checked tablecloths!!! Left a candle burning while at work one day. Came home to green candle wax all over the top and down the sides of my dressing table!!! Used to love melting the candle wax so it was dripping down the outside of the bottle. All different colours!
    Marg…ox

  12. Looks great to my eye, not unlike my rooms here but yours are stacked and you have those wonderful oft of doors spaces. Yay! Isn’t it miraculous how busy folks with multiple careers manage to squeeze it all in!

  13. Rene says:

Hi Mo-Love your space-I too have industrial shelves for storage and a wardrobe on wheels! No such luxury as built in cupboards here and stuff mostly everywhere. It cheers me to know that I am not the only person who collects stuff thinking I might use it one day! No offence meant-I think it is just the artistic way. Your house is so cute!

    • Mo Crow says:

(((René))) those industrial shelves are so sturdy and when they need to be moved they come apart in a matter of minutes, and re all the stuff that has accumulated in our ten years here, thank goodness Old Man Crow is a muso, all he needs is his guitars and amps along with a few clothes, he could easily live in a hotel room, the clutter is all mine!

  14. arlee says:

I LOVE YOUR HOME. Greyman and i refuse to buy into the conspicuous consumerism mentality, and like you have a quirky old wobbly house too. In all seriousness, if we ever won the lottery, any real estate agent would be thoroughly confused if we asked to see OLD houses, anything predating the 30’s!

  15. deemallon says:

I love these annual tours. A real peek into your world. Of course to these eyes, all the quirky exotic details are wonderful expressions of who you and Old Man Crow are!

  16. yvette says:

    pfffff for now no worries…..

  17. Nancy says:

Congrats on another good inspection! Love seeing all the nooks and cranies to your house. Okay you two, carry on and keep on truckin’!!

  18. Judy Martin says:

I love it when you post photos of your living space. Intimate and honest. beautiful xo

    • Mo Crow says:

(((Judy))) we are enjoying every minute we have left here in this big, mad & increasingly gentrified inner city area, when we moved here 10 years ago there was more artists, musicians, poets and their muses per square metre than anywhere I had ever lived but over time the rundown old houses are being sold and renovated with bright young professionals moving in, there’s still a bohemian vibe but the wild things are having to move out of town including us one day!

  19. debgorr says:

Love the home tour! So glad things went well.

  20. Lana sebastian says:

Love your little terrace house Mo, it reminds me of life in the inner suburbs of Melbourne too many years ago to count!
