What a marvelous book and I can’t help but wonder how green, my favorite color is noted: I often give names to the shades of green that I sometimes get when dyeing cloth by luck, happenstance, and sheer alchemic magic.Sometimes the names reflect where I live so now that I am in New Mexico…
I have “Hatching Green” , a somewhat bright green color in honor of our states best known product, green chilies
“Tierra Arriba” green (tierra arriba means high country in Spanish and this green has darker overtones, reminds me of Pinon trees.
“Olivos Green, (olivios is the Spanish word for olives) because this color is the color of good olive oil a green that I get when using red onion skins in a copper pot with a splash of vinegar. It’s the green of the pennant I sent to you.

Oh this is great Mo, thanks for posting the greens. I enlarged the photo to see the greens and he does list an olive green, but it is Sap green that really called out to me although I have to say that Siskin felt familiar, quite similar to a green that I get when I mix grapevine bark with pear leaves- this is fascinating .

Oh, Mo, i bought this and was so excited. i looked and looked, disappointed, the color and the reproduction were poor, it made me so sad. this is a book that deserved the very best reproducing, and the publishers really dropped the ball. i sent it back.
(((Velma))) considering the age of the original publication I expected the colours would be faded (think about the Turner’s you have seen in real life) the descriptions are pure poetry, for me it’s worth every penny!
oh my, another book on my never ending wish list! it is wonderful in every sense of the word
