I’m really enjoying this, Mo.
looking deeper
beautiful marks you’ve made here…
(((Velma)) this series exploring the haptic sensibility is taking me down so many new paths, love the way the stitches are redefining lace like a relief carving into the surface of the felt
you search deeper and that
(((Yvette))) I have fallen in love with a sea urchin!
the stitches are wonderful. you are so talented! blessings!
thanks for these good words, the more I look & feel each bump and fissure the more I see
slowly going ….
this exploration is making it’s own time!
This is coming to life more and more.
(((Hazel))) it’s moving right along now, another 2 & 1/2 panels to go, then line each panel in white silk, edged with needle lace, haven’t decided how to strengthen the “ribs”… perhaps grey silk cord, guitar strings or bound boar bristles won’t know til it’s all stitched together which will work but it’s turning into a real thing! Sea Urchin 4 will be even bigger, Madeleine of Artsite Gallery has offered to felt her old pink wool blanket in her good washing machine. I want to try making lots of holes with reverse applique moon coloured toad skin leather and purple thread… a psychedelic dream thing
thank you for a new word — haptic. the pictures of your beautiful stitches on the fuzzy wool really do make me want to touch them. Can’t wait to see this curve into the next aspect of its creation!
(((Dee))) this project is really starting to redefine ideas of lace into a 21st C context, a journey started back in 2011 with the Stole of Bandaged Hearts and Hopeful Lunacy in 2012
Well on the way now, Mo, and looking so full of Mo magic. Those delicate stitches on the grey felt are quite other worldly. I’m looking forward to following your finishing touches.
me too, am dreaming up Sea urchin 4, I want to cut very precise round holes into the felt, perhaps backing it with one of those iron on stabilizers might do the trick…
The sketches are as intriguing as the stitching Mo.
understanding the form with the point of the pencil
‘dilation’ … that’s the word that comes to mind – in the drawing, scale, understanding.
(((Susi))) this one is opening up on so many levels
