The fine for riding a bicycle without a helmet is now $319 so it was time to make this old one wearable again!
I covered it inside and out with Italian glove leather
and blackened the flouro yellow straps with Inktense coloured pencil
legal & ready to roll again on my trusty old 3 speed Raleigh

Classiest bike helmet ever … ditto the rider
I so wish I had bought that t-shirt 10 years ago with Vintage Chic emblazoned on the front!
Hey Mo ! You look great !!! (and happy biking …)
In Holland we all bike, young and (very) old,
and nobody EVER wears a helmet …..
(but I think things are s l o w l y changing …
but helmets are a killer to your hairdo !)
helmets have been compulsory since 1991 here in Sydney. Old Man Crow bought me a brand new helmet back then which I left on the handle bars that very night and it was stolen straight away so I had the perfect excuse if the police ever pulled me up, I could honestly say that it had been stolen and I was going to get a new one… well I did eventually… Old Man Crow needed a new helmet for his birthday this year so I now have his old one, it must be 25 years old and looks so much better covered in that soft black leather!
Looks great Mo….but is it enough to protect that wonderful, beautiful, creative head/mind/face. You are so brave to ride a push bike on the city roads of Sydney….take your life in your hands every time you do, I would imagine. Stay safe my adventurous friend.
I ride very slowly on the footpath and dedicated bicycle paths, the old Raleigh is an antique and so am I!
Class…yes. Class.
here in NMex there’s not even a mandatory helmet law for motorcycles …on freeways…
75mph….
visiting New Mexico to see that wild landscape up in the 4 Corners is a lifelong dream… & that I could hire a motorcycle to get there and ride without a helmet! I still have a motorcycle riders license but haven’t ridden since 1990 & forgot to renew my car license back in 1978… bicycles are more my speed these days.
Looking good, Mo! I shared this with an avid cyclist friend in USA and she can’t believe the NSW fines!
& we have to carry ID to ride a bicycle!!!
You look very classy with that helmet Mo………..
To be honest, if we had a law to wear helmets i’d stop cycling, i like the wind in my hair…..
oh so did I until they brought in these outrageous fines there are too many draconian rules and regulations in this 21st C world!
Fantastic job on the helmet, Mo! I’ve only ridden a bike once since they brought in this outrageous law and didn’t enjoy the head experience. It’s such a shame that politicians get to decide whether we can be responsible for our own actions!
maintain the rage… we’re going to the protest at Sydney Town Hall today at 1:30
That’s the classiest bike helmet ever, Mo!
a fun one!
so nice to see your mug now and then!
my brothers and I spent years perfecting pulling goofy faces for the camera…
