since my last post the leather on the covers dried enough to trim out, the black Somerset Velvet 245 gsm endpapers were pasted in, the text block edge was wrapped in leather and the first and last page waxed with Dorland’s cold wax medium to protect the page surface stitched with waxed black linen though the covers, then drilled the text block & stitched it in the crow book is bound and it feels amazing! the flaws in the leather turned into crows on the back cover the talisman bookmark relates to The Stole of Bandaged Hearts the red x stitched into the title page was where I got a little too enthusiastic with rubbing in the wax table of contents and info page “Requiem” printed out beautifully on the A3+ double sided Premium Matte 50 pound ( 190gsm) Red River inkjet paper, over the next few weeks I will paint the little dashes of red gouache & go over each page with a magnifying glass for flaws, stray typos and making sure the digital files are all saved at the right size & format. love how “Turn the Page” works with the bookmark Crossroads Hotel the back page with pockets ready for the 4 CDs this is the prototype to take along to Pure Colours Digital Imaging for printing the limited edition in August. We’re doing the happy dance here this morning & Ariel thinks we’re totally mad!

thanks Eliene, will be interesting to see what the printer thinks about getting a similar effect happening with die cut cardboard!
Ahhh, scrumptious Mo ox
thanks Marg, enjoying just holding it in my hands feeling all the different textures!
I bet you will miss working on this.
I love this book but after hand colouring & making the 100 talisman bookmarks for the limited edition I will be ready to let it fly & the next one will be brewing!
Stunning
thanks Debbie
Simply amazing; such magic in all of this as well as creativity, talent, hard work, vision, and most of all, love for this is a love story in song and drawing, in togetherness and continuity, in sharing and remembering, this is a lifetime treasure.
(((Marti))) it is!
amazing and magnificent. love seeing your process with this.
thanks for the encouragement Deanna
a true labour of love – looks amazing Mo!
thanks for the good words Louise
It’s great to be able to gobble up some of your details…how that wing wraps around is wonderful & I think the red ‘x’ is a very happy accident.
I should have read the instructions first on the cold wax, apparently it’s best applied in a thin layer and polished immeditaely, then repeated I left the first layer for for three hours thinking it needed to set for a day so it looks a bit antiqued and I feel good about the red x it connects with the red x’s in the illustrations that will be hand coloured over the next few weeks
oh, eeeee….that soft slitty eyed kind….this is just beyond WonderFULL to look upon….
am over and over so happy to be able to watch it come to be ready for Flight….
You are Quite Something, Mo Crow
Y’know I can’t really look at it yet Grace ans neither can Old Man Crow, it just needs to sit for a bit now and settle before I go back in and hand colour the dashes of red here and there and do the final preparation of the digital files to take to the printer in late August, the good thing is there is plenty of time to get all the details perfect and making the 100 heart talisman bookmarks will be a joy.
The blacks in your illustrations look so dark and rich.
that Red River paper is amazing, the blacks are like deep velvet like an oil based etching ink
it looks great, and aren’t there way too many little details??? i can never believe all the things i overlook, and then they just have to be done. it looks good, though.
our friend Richard did a great job of editing on the second draft, found things like double spaces between words, apostrophes at the front of words (ie’round) that ended up upside down because the computer program had turned it into a single quotation mark instead, capitals for nouns as in Saturday etc etc and even so I still caught a few as I was printing this one… have an appointment with the optometrist next month so will do the final going over with new glasses, they always feel like a new set of eyes!
edit esit edit…………………………..ediy………………………………………………………………………………..edit
hehehe!
OHH WOOW! This is just amazing stuff Mo! It is so real and genuine! It looks beautiful and clever and fantasic and it is amazing how you have captured the spirit of Old Man Crow! Go girlfriend!
Hey (((Dotti))) let’s catch up soon!
excellent, brilliant, amazing, words fail me!
(((Saskia)))
Oh Mo Mo Mo Mo Mo!!!!!! What a stupendous result – it looks amazing and just as it is meant to be. I completely understand the need to leave it alone and not look at it for a bit now. Just let it be. But my, the exuberance could be felt way up here – I’m so thrilled for you both! (apologies for overuse of !!!!!!!s but you get the feeling right?)
Fiona you know what it’s like! will be interesting to see how it translates into the commercially printed and bound edition
