A Pocket for the Burnt and Broken Heart (spiral heart stitched & burnt by Jude Hill)” by Mo 2014
H 15cm W 12.5 cm (not including cord)
sisal & linen cords bound with vintage Silkworm thread, indigo and pomegranate dyed silk velvet,
feather, vintage mother of pearl button, wishbone, shells, grape vine tendril stitched with silk steel
African myrrh and clay, glass, moss agate beads
Jude sent me this fragile spiral of a heart in early 2013 along with her 3 leftover hearts
I kept it safe in a jar but it needed to breathe so I made this spare pocket to set the heart free
(with thanks to Coby Lange in the Netherlands for inventing such a good way to stitch feathers into cloth)

Just imagine if we could set hearts free all around the world, set our minds free, offer up kindness, burn away anger and division, exhale it all out, take in kindness, hands held together, hearts connected…these thoughts came tumbling out of your pocket Mo…
(((Marti)) imagine! as the kind young man said in this clip about Ferguson if we could all “Be Kind” we could be “Kind Man” looking after each other, the water, the land and all her sentient & non sentient beings!
a precious pocket – adorned with treasures
it started out as a neckpiece but looked too much like a bib so it turned into a pocket!
Love this little pouch Mo !
it’s so soft!
oh, it’s safe now…..
(Jude))) your heart is so special, the magic of the black & white stitching, the aged quality of the linen cloth, the way the pomegranate & indigo dyed silk velvet that came in your indigo bundle fit so perfectly with the heart and the linen cord a friend gifted last month, the colours remind me of a favourite little treasure box that had a flying Pegasus on the lid from when I was 12…
Beautiful and expressive, I love your little bags and pockets
sometimes they just want to come out
I love it all, but most especially the stitching on each side of the blue. Your pieces speak soft whispers that I strain to hear … if only my fingers would listen.
old cloth speaks with a gentle insistence
I’ve wondered about how to stitch feathers onto cloth – thanks!
it works thanks to Coby Lange !
love your pouch Mo, a perfect place for a heart…:)
thanks for the good words Karen, had to set that special heart from Jude free to get out and see the world!
Brilliantly beautiful, Mo!
it had to be beautiful enough to honour the wise spiral of a heart cloth from Jude
What a gift you have Mo, for finding the perfect place…
thanks Carol it is such a beautiful inspiring heart, it needed to get out of that jar!
Mo! Jude’s heart and how you incorperate it in your art…..
soso beautiful!
and the feather stitching…off to Coby..lovelovelove
thanks for the good words (((Yvette))) !
These pieces are living things, nearly.
Jude’s stitching is very lively and really didn’t enjoy living in that jar, it feels good to set it free!
