Once in a Blue Moon by Mo at 3am August 31st, 2012
Ariel was running around like a banshee a few minutes ago to let me know the Moon is full, the actual moment of true blueness here in Sydney  is 11:58 tonight but I will be in the land of dreams!
here’s the moon at 7:30pm on August 31st still more than 4 hours to go til the exact blue moon, love how this little camera can see the mountains & craters of the moon!
Blue Moon at 3am on September 1st, the first morning of Spring so technically she is really no longer True Blue but the photo tells the story!
NB photo taken straight out of the camera no adjustments just cropped & this night calls for a favourite poem-

THE CAT AND THE MOON

The cat went here and there
And the moon spun round like a top,
And the nearest kin of the moon,
The creeping cat, looked up.
Black Minnaloushe stared at the moon,
For, wander and wail as he would,
The pure cold light in the sky
Troubled his animal blood.
Minnaloushe runs in the grass
Lifting his delicate feet.
Do you dance, Minnaloushe, do you dance?
When two close kindred meet,
What better than call a dance?
Maybe the moon may learn,
Tired of that courtly fashion,
A new dance turn.
Minnaloushe creeps through the grass
From moonlit place to place,
The sacred moon overhead
Has taken a new phase.
Does Minnaloushe know that his pupils
Will pass from change to change,
And that from round to crescent,
From crescent to round they range?
Minnaloushe creeps through the grass
Alone, important and wise,
And lifts to the changing moon
His changing eyes.

  1. It’s 8:30 PM here in NYC, and I saw her briefly on my way home from yoga, down a long street toward the east–just a peak between the tall buildings though, technically she’s not completely full yet, she was gorgeous, pale yellow slung low to the horizon. My post will go up early AM tomorrow morning the 31st and she will be full here around 740PM–I’m including a site where time of rise and set is listed worldwide + other tasty treats, a piece of moon artwork, and maybe a snapshot or two if I get lucky…. Hope your sleep is sweet. I’ve got several hours to go before I slump to the mattress.

  2. Carol says:

All beautiful, Mo! I slept through the best part of the moon but it is still looking fabulous. My 3 year old grandson said “look, big moon”. I love that the children are very aware of the moon and her changes. So love your dedication page with Ariel so engrossed.
