Inconsequentiality is finished for now, just click on the pic to take a closer look.
Came very close to cutting out the black crow king in the foreground to leave a black silhouette but heeded a good friend’s wise words to just let it go and put it away for now & so I have. The next song is cooking already, inspired by Jackie Morris’s fabulous photos of the raven “Merlin” in the Tower of London.
To have a look and a listen to the “The illustrated Lyrics of Old Man Crow” finished so far just click here.

  1. I’ve been watching this wonderful piece develop, admiring your craft and persistence…and oh wasn’t that Jackie Morris trip the BEST—the ravens and the wolf haven….I wanted to run away to England.

    • Mo Crow says:

Jackie is such a gem, she has given me permission to use that photo of Merlin in profile with the close up of her wing as the model for the next song. Will be working with white gouache on black paper to capture the light lacy patterning of those feathers… and so much more, she’s taken the best portrait of a raven I have ever seen! here’s the link

  2. spiritcloth says:

i love how this just flies off the page

    • Mo Crow says:

thanks for the encouragement Jude, it was a difficult one to get down, the vision was quite clear in my mind but the rhythm of the music is so jagged & manic it didn’t allow me too fugue or fiddle about at all, still not totally happy with that main crow but feel like these early ones will improve with a few loose gestures in 3 or so years when all 40 are complete… it’s a journey and am well into the tunnel now…

  3. Carol says:

I think it’s wonderful as is but I know what you mean, and giving yourself some space from it is a good idea.

  4. Mo Crow, you are so very talented… I am impressed to see how you follow your work through and how it develops and your finished pieces…. and the cat book as well… I greatly admire it.
